Asia History
This Year 10 Elective offers students an opportunity to participate in guided historial research to explore areas of Asian history in which they have an interest.
The course begins with an exploration of the major events and key people of the Chinese Revolution in order to give students an opportunity to practice their research skills and present their learning in a fun and interesting way. This will also provide background for students who may wish to go on to study Revolutions in VCE History.
Students are offered support throughout the research process and will be encouraged to share what they have learned in a variety of ways, including using music, ICT and other forms of presentation.
In the second part of the unit, students will use the skills they have developed to undertake a second research project on the history of an additional Asian country or event of their own choice. This subsequent research project will require students to engage with a country other than China and examine another significant event in Asian history. Students will practice their history skills and will learn how to locate primary and secondary sources, how to approach an analysis of source documents and how to manage large amounts of information. They will develop skills in creating and using bibliographies.
By the end of this unit, students will have developed their knowledge of the Asian continent and of a range of events and key people who have had an impact on the area over time.
